On 16th of July 2017, a delegate from the University of Zakho headed by Dr. Lazgin Abdi Jamil , the President of the University of Zakho, Dr. Yaseen Taha Mustafa, the Vise President for Scientific Affairs and Dr. Ahmad H. Ibrahim , the Director of the International Relations Office, and another delegate from the General Hospital in Zakho including Dr. Ali Sulaivani, Dr. Shakir Abdulrahman Jamal and Dr. Basheer Ali Abdi met with Dr. Amanj Saeed, the Adviser of the Ministry of Higher Education, and Dr. Ali A. Dabbagh the Dean of College of Medicine at Hawler Medical University. The aim of the visit was to discuss the ability of opening a college of medicine at the University of Zakho. The university staff along with the hospital staff and the labs will be available for the students of the college of medicine. Opening a medicine college will be a big step to cover the shortage in the number of doctors in the rapidly growing city of Zakho. Its worth mentioning that the University of Zakho has big advanced teaching labs and modern labs for postgraduate studies in the field of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Anatomy with research center in Natural sciences in addition to advanced animal units. All these facilities will be ready to be used by our medicine students. At the end of the meeting, the delegate of the University of Zakho appreciated the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Dr. Yousif Goran alongside his adviser Dr. Amanj Saeed for their care and support for opening a medical college in the University of Zakho.
